Zambia’s New Oppressive And Draconian Cyber Laws

1. Life Imprisonment
Using the internet to attack critical infrastructure or spread terror for political or social gain is cyberterrorism. It’s punishable by life imprisonment. Do not engage in or promote any form of online terrorism
2. 15 years imprisonment
If you share data related to critical infrastructure or information that you’re not authorized to, you could face up to 15 years in prison. This includes unauthorized transmission of data, programs, access codes, or commands.
3. 10years Imprisonment
Using a computer system to steal trade secrets or confidential data without permission is illegal. You could face up to 10 years in prison for illegally acquiring or copying sensitive information.
4. 2years imprisonment
Recording a private conversation without informing those involved is a crime, punishable by up to 2 years in prison. There are limited exceptions, such as if the recording is necessary for the protection of a party’s lawful interests.
5. Sending sexy videos and pictures is now harassment and sexual assault
If you share explicit, offensive, or lewd content (such as videos or images) via social media or messaging apps without consent, it could be categorized as harassment, humiliation, or violation of privacy laws.
6. Sharing explicit content without permission, even as a joke, can lead to prosecution under the cyberbullying or harassment provision.
7. If you use software that you haven’t purchased or don’t have permission to use (e.g., using a pirated copy of paid software or cracking a password), this could be classified under unauthorized access or interference with computer systems or software. It could result in fines or prison time.
