ZAM Seeks Pension For Musicians

ZAM Seeks Pension For Musicians
The Zambia Association of Musicians president Kasoka Brian Bwembya, professionally known as B Flow, earlier announced that he is happy to share that we are currently exploring ways of securing “pensions” for music artists. Since time immemorial, musicians have been viewed as ‘just entertainers’ but we are determined to change the narrative because we believe that music is a profession.
It is gratifying to learn that even informal sectors like ours are eligible for pensions, and we are working around the clock to ensure that members of the Zambia Association of Musicians – ZAM are not left behind. We will soon make some announcements to this effect.
We are gradually graduating from being a social sector to becoming an economic sector.
Some fans are proud of this progress, one of them said, ‘Dear President Kasoka Brian Bwembya,
Congratulations on this progressive step toward securing pensions for our music artists. This is a truly commendable initiative that recognizes music as a serious and respectable profession.
Introducing pensions not only brings dignity to the careers of musicians but also sets a solid foundation for long-term financial security. I also wish to encourage the leadership of ZAM to consider including other essential incentives, such as support in cases of illness, disability, or if an artist passes away before retirement. These are critical safeguards that reflect the realities of life and the risks artists face.’
This bold move is a sign that the creative industry is transforming from a social sector into an economic powerhouse. Well done to you and your team!
